Our fabulous Junior Travel Ambassadors and Mrs Wright attended their first JTA seminar today, for an introduction to their roles. They worked with children from schools across Sutton and Kingston to learn more about road safety and sustainable transport. Whilst at the seminar, they confidently introduced themselves to Councillor Steve Cook and Mrs Pauline Cook – the current Mayor and Mayoress of the London Borough of Sutton! They were both incredibly interested in our school and seemed very pleased to see such polite and confident children representing Wallington Primary Academy!
Our JTAs will have a dynamic role in road safety and active travel education. They will work alongside Miss Vyramuthu (our teacher with responsibility for all things ‘Eco’) and our Eco Warriors from all year groups, to encourage children and adults to travel to school in sustainable ways, and get serious messages about road safety across to their peers. in fun ways!
Their main duties will be to raise awareness over the academic year by distributing newsletters & posters, running assemblies & competitions and ensuring that all classes keep a record of those children who ‘walk once a week’ – ‘WOW’! They will receive full support and monthly guidance from Kingston and Sutton Council’s Sustainable Transport Team.
We are passionate about increasing the amount of families who choose to walk, scoot, cycle or take public transport to school, in order to increase fitness, improve well-being and reduce congestion & pollution in the local area!
Watch this space, for further sustainable travel news!
